Elon Musk to Focus on Tesla Despite Controversial Tweets

Elon Musk has announced that a new Twitter CEO will allow him to devote more time to Tesla. Despite this, he has stated that he will continue to tweet his unfiltered thoughts, even if it harms his businesses. Musk has courted controversy since taking over Twitter, including sacking most of its staff, readmitting banned accounts to the platform, suspending journalists, and charging for previously free services. These moves have spooked advertisers, with many leaving the platform due to concerns over their products being associated with troubling content.

Trump’s Return to Twitter Uncertain

Musk has also cleared the way for Donald Trump to return to Twitter, but the former US President has yet to restart using the platform, choosing to post on his own social media site instead. If Trump were to return and post unfounded claims about the 2020 election, a “community notes” feature would let Twitter users point out the misinformation, Musk told CNBC. Despite Musk’s stated positions on free speech and his fierce criticism of content moderation around the 2020 election, Twitter recently admitted it yielded to Turkish government pressure to take down content ahead of last weekend’s elections.

Focus on Artificial Intelligence at Tesla

Musk has stated that he will be focusing on artificial intelligence back at Tesla, which already uses such technology for self-driving capabilities. He predicts that Tesla will have a ChatGPT moment, using Tesla AI for autonomous driving, no later than next year. ChatGPT bots from startup OpenAI, which Musk helped create, have captured imaginations and provoked fears regarding powerful artificial intelligence. Musk claims to be the reason OpenAI exists, having invested some $50 million in the startup at the outset and coming up with the name.

In summary, despite the appointment of a new Twitter CEO, Elon Musk plans to continue tweeting his unfiltered thoughts even if it affects his businesses. Musk will be focusing on artificial intelligence at Tesla, particularly in the area of autonomous driving, and predicts a ChatGPT moment for Tesla AI no later than next year. While Musk has been critical of content moderation in the past, Twitter recently yielded to Turkish government pressure to take down content ahead of last weekend’s elections.
