Boeing CEO Vows to Strengthen Relationship with Union Members

Boeing’s new chief executive, Kelly Ortberg, is making it a top priority to improve the company’s relationship with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. In a recent meeting with IAM 751 & W24 presidents in Seattle, Ortberg expressed his commitment to “reset” the relationship and work towards a new labor contract that benefits both parties.

Union Demands and Negotiations

The IAM District 751 negotiating committee has made it clear that they want Boeing to prioritize manufacturing its future aircraft in the Seattle region. Additionally, they are demanding a significant pay increase of at least 40 percent over three years, along with better benefits including improvements to health insurance and pensions.

Ortberg acknowledges the challenges faced by both sides in the past but remains optimistic about working together towards a more positive future. The IAM District 751 negotiating committee believes that rebuilding trust is essential for moving forward and securing jobs in the region, asserting that Boeing must commit to retaining these positions.

Although Ortberg may not be directly involved in the bargaining process, his leadership and influence are crucial in ensuring a successful negotiation. Ortberg’s proactive approach to visiting Boeing’s facilities and meeting with key stakeholders demonstrates his dedication to understanding the needs of both union members and the company as a whole.
